An insightful portrait will show a facet of an individual’s personality. A portrait book, on the other hand, has the scope to capture the essence of the person.
Creating and compiling the photos for a portrait book is a collaborative effort between the photographer and the subject. We spend a bit of time getting to know each other – how I work and what my philosophy of photographing my subject is, who you are, what interests you have, what is special. We pick a setting to do the shoot. You pick the clothes you want to be portrayed in and any people, animals, or things you might want to include.
The shoot takes as long as necessary to get what we consider sufficient body of work to achieve our objective. Together we review the unedited shots to pick those we think best do the job. I then do my thing with the images, editing and sometimes compositing to create a unique look. The final step is to format the book on the computer, on which we have a final review before going to print.
